Introduction to Rock Climbing
'Real' Outdoor Rock climbing in the Lake District is exhilarating, strenuous, challenging and of course fun. At MobileAdventure our highly experienced team of climbing instructors guarantee that you will experience all of these during your climbing sessions with us!
The Lake District, has some of the finest rock climbs in the country, and is also home to some of the most famous historical routes - the 1st recorded rock climb being Napes Needle at the head of the valley. Other famous Lake District locations are Dow Crag, Hodge Close Quarry and the entire Langdale Valley, all with a wide variety of both single and multi pitch routes. Although there are some great indoor climbing walls in Keswick, they are not a patch on the 'real deal' of climbing rock!
We base all our climbing in the Borrowdale valley, as this small area gives us great access to a wide range of crags, suitable for all climbing abilities, and all within 15min drive of Keswick.
Whether you are a novice rock climber or someone looking to brush up on their skills we have the rock climbing course for you. All of our instructors are keen and active climbers, and they will pass on their passion and knowledge of rock climbing which they have gained through many years of experience.

What is it?
Run as a half day activity our taster rock climbing sessions are ideal for those looking for a unique and challenging way of experiencing something out of the ordinary - the whole point of the activity is to challenge yourself and have as much fun as possible whilst you climb some classic Lake District routes and admire the beauty of the Borrowdale valley from a different perspective!
Keen to try climbing on real rock but not sure where to start? Don't know a carabiner from a belay plate? We will cover this and all the other basics during a fun and action packed morning (or afternoon) of outdoor rock climbing. Every big adventure starts with a small step. Make this yours!
This is a very different activity experience from a session at your local indoor climbing wall, and you will be amazed at how quickly you can progress. Your climbing instructor will hold the MCI award (formally MIA award) the top climbing award in the UK, only gained after many years of experience, so they really know their stuff.
This rock climbing course is ideal for beginners, families or groups just out for fun. We guarantee to have you all climbing routes safely and competently by the end of the session, having learnt skills such as belaying, lowering, climbers calls and movement skills. Both rock climbing and abseiling are options at a wide variety of crags within and around the Borrowdale valley - a 10 min drive from Keswick, and our local instructors take pride in tailoring the activities to meet your specific needs and abilities.
Typical Itinerary
9.30am
Leave Keswick and travel down to the rock crag.
9.40am
Kit up with harnesses and helmets and learn the basics of Lake District rock climbing.
10.00am
Spend the next two hours rock climbing and having fun!
12.30pm
Finish the session and travel back to Keswick, feeling like a climber!
