River Tweed Canoe Trip
This is an entirely self-sufficient river trip, with riverside camps for the two nights, and all food cooked and prepared as necessary. If your group would like a slightly more luxurious trip, we can arrange accommodation in bed and breakfasts or hotels along the route. We aim to paddle well over half the length of the river over the three days, although groups who would like to concentrate on coaching will cover less ground.
The Tweed is the second longest river in Scotland at 96 miles long, and it's huge catchment area ensures that the river runs at a navigable water level through most of the year.
Typical itinerary
- Day 1
- A gentle introduction to moving water where we will cover the basics of safe river running.
- Day 2
- We will encounter some larger, more complex rapids, which will really test your skills!
- Day 3
- This, the final day of the trip will take in some of most spectacular scenery of the journey.
Level of difficulty
The River Tweed is mainly grade II water, with some grade III sections which can be portaged if necessary. As this is a multi day trip a reasonable level of fitness is expected, however we only use high quality modern boats, which are extremely light, and handle very well. Before running any rapids a comprehensive briefing will be given by your instructor who will never be far away. The only requirement for participants is to be confident in water; an ability to swim is not essential, as you will be wearing a buoyancy aid.
