The Lake District Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine

Typical itinerary

Leave Keswick and travel to Honister Slate Mine where the Via Ferrata is based.
9.30am
Kit up with harnesses and helmets and recieve a final briefing.
9.45am
Walk into the base of the Via Ferrata.
10am
Climb the vertical rock face in wonderfully exposed situations.
11.45am
Reach Fleetwith Pike with breathtaking views over Buttermere.
12pm
Walk back to the Honister Slate mine.
12.30pm
Drive back to Keswick.

What happens on a Via Ferrata session?

The Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine gives you have a choice of two trips, either the classic which follows a natural line up the side of the mountain; or the more intense Zipline trip, which involves crossing a ravine by zipwire before ascending a series of walls and slabs to end up on Fleetwith Pike.

A decent level of fitness and a good head for heights are prerequisites for this outdoor activity! Our instructors will explain how to use the equipment and will guide you throughout the via ferrata, helping and encouraging you as necessary.
