Lake District Kayaking
Kayaking uses boats originally designed by Eskimos for travelling on the sea. The Mobile Adventure fleet of kayaks provides you with the perfect way to enjoy a few hours on Derwent Water, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District national park. Lake District kayaking allows you to see the national park from another angle and on the beautiful Derwent Water, the size and grandeur of the mountains is put in a whole new perspective, and the peace and quiet of the surroundings can be truly appreciated. Kayaking is indeed a wonderful experience for all abilities.
There is so much to enjoy about the sport of kayaking besides the actual paddling of a kayak. Not only is kayaking excellent exercise, but the beauty of kayaking on Derwent Water or across any lake or down any river is hard to beat. Kayaking is a perfect activity for both the individual paddler or a group of friends or family, and kayaking on Derwent Water with Mobile Adventure provides a unique ability to learn new skills and see the Lake District from a different perspective.
Please note, if you are more than 15 stone or taller than 6foot, we strongly recommend canoeing as being more suitable for you.
Typical introductory session
- 9am
- Leave Keswick and travel down to Derwent Water.
- 9.30am
- Kit up with cagoules, buoyancy aids and wetsuits.
- 9.45am
- Initial kayaking briefing and some simple coaching before getting into your kayak.
- 10am
- Get into your kayaks and journey across the stunning Derwent Water.
- 12pm
- Return to dry land with a chance to change your clothes if necessary!
Kayak River Trips
For those with more experience of kayaking or wishing to push themselves to the limit a trip down one of the local Lake District rivers can be arranged with one of our fully qualified guides. Skills such as breaking in and out, ferrygliding and rescues will be introduced as we paddle down a classic Lake District river. More information about River Trips
What happens in a Kayaking session?
Whether you are looking to perform the perfect Eskimo roll, or simply out for some enjoyment our instructors will tailor the kayaking session to suit your level of skill.
The Lake District is the perfect kayaking playground, offering everything from flat calm lakes to grade 5 white water. If you like kayaking then the lake district offers plenty of choice for all ability levels, and Mobile Adventure will suit the session to your skill and aims.
After a short warm up and some coaching in basic kayaking strokes a journey across Derwent Water will be planned taking in some of the breath taking sights of the Lake District. Paddling skills will be coached in a fun environment, involving games as well as personal coaching.
